From lecture room to the pitch: CLA Vs History

The Dean's Cup competition is an anticipated football tradition that occurs during the second semester of every session in the prestigious Faculty of Arts.

The session's edition kicked off with the CLA and History departments, and it was accompanied by all the usual excitement and drama that students had been waiting for. Right from the first whistle, both teams came out with energy and determination, eager to win bragging rights and represent their departments in style.

Barely a few minutes into the match, a penalty kick was awarded to the CLA team, but they missed the opportunity.

However, the loss didn't deter them. Ten minutes into the match with spectators buzzing with anticipation, Jorsh, a striker from CLA, stimulated the pitch with an amazing goal, giving CLA an early lead. The CLA fan base broke into boisterous cheering that lovers of football are characterized by.

Following this goal, it could be said that CLA boys were gassed up as Kante launched a smooth near-goal attempt, drawing gasps from the crowd as his strike brushed past the post but the History department defence team said they were not there to play. Leshi, the captain of the CLA team, responded moments later with another close attempt for CLA, but the ball once again went above the crossbar, keeping History's hopes alive.

Tension and anticipation were thick in the air when CLA was awarded a free kick, a moment that had everyone holding their breath and muttering prayers. The tension was evident as the players set up for the shot, and History's defence braced themselves for their responsibilities.

‎A nice pass from Leshi to Jay kept the ball rolling. Jay kicked it over to Jorsh, who expertly delivered it into the net, earning CLA another goal.

As if in response to CLA's victory, the History department scored a quick goal, which resulted in loud cheers from their fan base and only a few moments later, the referee blew the whistle, and that marked the end of the first half with the scoreline 2-1 to CLA.

The second half commenced with both teams bringing their best foot, knowing a goal can hugely determine the trajectory of the match. A free kick went to History, but it was lost, and it was quite evident that History was desperately in search of a second goal.

A few moments later, coaches of both teams substituted some players, and not long after, a yellow card was issued to West of the CLA team.

Midway through the match, a powerful volley from Drey went over the bar, and Jay exhibited strong determination as he forced a corner for CLA, earning excitement and cheers among supporters. Not long after, another goal was scored by History, bringing them on level with CLA.

A few minutes from the end of the match, a double substitution took place for CLA to relieve some of the exhausted players.

The match that was a showcase of talent and grit, with both departments contending for victory, ended in a 2-2 draw.
